Layla's Newborn Session
It's safe to say that the Grover family are my guinea pigs. First, I had the pleasure of photographing Karlie and Cody as my first-ever wedding shoot, followed by my first gender reveal, maternity, and newborn sessions. I am blessed to know this lovely little family, and the fact that they trust a relatively new photographer to document these special milestones in their lives.
I love babies. I mean, who doesn't? Those sweet, soft cheeks and tiny hands and feet. And that SMELL. Admittedly, I had to stop and just smell Layla a few times. It's been awhile since I got to hold a tiny baby and just soak it in. She is beautiful and perfect, of course.
To be quite honest, I was literally terrified of this shoot. I don't think I researched, prepped and prepared more for any shoot (even weddings!) as much I did for this session. I did months of YouTube watching, Pinterest surfing, and article-reading about newborn photography, I bought waaaay too many props and baskets (I took 6 baby containers to this session, LOL). I was over prepared, and at the same time, absolutely not ready at all. I quickly learned that the baby absolutely runs the show and sets the tone for what we did and when we did it. I planned on 3 hours for the shoot, and that's pretty much exactly what it took to get it done. Layla, being the little angel that she is, really only cried once. She was a great first newborn model and I am so glad that she was my first baby to photograph.
